It didn’t take long after the release of “Creed” for sequel talk to start stirring. The “Rocky” spinoff directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan was a huge crowd-pleaser and box office hit, while still maintaining a connection to the mainline series thanks to Sylvester Stallone taking on a mentor role to the young Adonis Creed. Among the ideas batted around for a followup was a prequel reuniting Rocky Balboa and Carl Weathers‘ Apollo Creed (who died in “Rocky IV“), but that was squashed by producer Irwin Winkler, who confirmed that any sequel would focus on Adonis.
