In a shocking revelation Thursday, news broke that earlier this summer Selena Gomez underwent a kidney transplant due to her continuing battle against Lupus. Somehow, this major news about one of the world’s biggest pop stars was kept incredibly quiet not only in the mainstream media, but social media where almost everything is posted by someone, somewhere. It was sort of a strange coincidence this was revealed considering I was prepping a podcast episode I recorded with Dylan O’Brien last month in conjunction with his new movie “American Assassin.” A conversation that described how truly taxing and traumatic his accident was on the set of “The Maze Runner: The Death Cure” in March, 2016. The journey of Vince Flynn‘s novel “American Assassin” to the big screen has been an interesting one. Over the years, directors like Antoine Fuqua, Ed Zwick, and Jeffrey Nachmanoff were linked to the adaptation, while Chris Hemsworth and Bruce Willis were also mentioned for roles. But it took rising star Dylan O’Brien (“The Maze Runner“) and director Michael Cuesta (“Kill The Messenger“) to get the movie in front of cameras. Is the “Jason Bourne” franchise dead in the water? The film eventually did good business overall ($442 million worldwide), but there’s no denying that the series was met with a lukewarm response in North America. Matt Damon is 46 years old and maybe it’s time to put that character to bed soon. Maybe?
