“This isn’t a place for you kids to party.” Here’s another teaser trailer for a slasher film playing at the SXSW Film Festival. This one is titled The Ranger, and it’s the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Jenn Wexler, who has worked as a producer on a bunch of great indie films before this. This 80’s horror thriller is about teen punks, on the run from the cops and hiding out in the woods, who end up facing off against the “local authority”—an unhinged park ranger with an axe to grind. The Ranger’s cast includes Chloë Levine, Granit Lahu, Jeremy Pope, Bubba Weiler, Amanda Grace Benitez, Jeremy Holm, with Larry Fessenden. This teaser doesn’t reveal much, and not much of the Ranger himself, but it still looks like fun. Here’s the first teaser trailer for Jenn Wexler’s The Ranger, direct from Vimeo (via TMB): Description from SXSW: When Chelsea and her friends get in trouble with the cops, they flee the city …

“I’m going to the rodeo.” “You don’t need to go ride today…” Sony Classics has debuted the second official trailer for the phenomenal film The Rider, which premiered at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and played at every other major film festival – Telluride, Toronto, Sundance. Written and directed by Chloe Zhao, this film is a “docu-drama” hybrid, and this trailer plays that up by pointing out “true stories”, and “real people.” The star of the film, Brady Jandreau, is a real cowboy and really hurt his head in real life, and the family in the film is also his real family. The Rider is about what happens when a cowboy is forced to figure out a different life. I saw this at the London Film Festival last year and loved it, and I can’t recommend it enough. It’s an exceptional film worth your time to discover. And if you need a trailer to convince you, give it a look. Here’s …

Thor: Ragnarok bestowed many gifts upon the world: Cate Blanchett vamping it up as a villain, that priceless “get help” gag, the hilarity of Korg, and a Chris Hemsworth superhero performance that finally capitalizes on his comedic talents. But one of my personal favorite contributions was The Grandmaster, played by …
